Did you know that 44% of people are getting news from mobile devices, email, social, networks and podcast? These stats were reported back in September on Mashable from a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center.

More recently, a study conducted by CNN has found that 43% of online news sharing takes place on social networks and tools. Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and YouTube make up these main sites.

All of this sharing has helped overall news consumption in the US increase.

Social networks are perfect for news sharing because many people understand the types of stories that their friends and family will find interesting or useful.

Due to social networks, the depth of the Internet, and mobile devices, the publishing industry is looking brighter than it has in years.

Sure, publishers will have to adopt new strategies and reach their audiences in new ways, but it’s promising to see that content consumption is still a big part of people’s lives.

Do these statistics surprise or excite you? Do you think news consumption will continue to rise? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
